Head's Welcome

Welcome to Tehiyah Day School, a pluralistic Jewish Day School located on a beautiful campus in the El Cerrito hills. Tehiyah Day School was founded in order to serve a diverse group of children and families and provide them with a progressive and meaningful Jewish education. We offer a values-based curriculum that celebrates the whole child and emphasizes the importance of social-emotional learning.

Tehiyah’s mission, “Awaken, Build, Connect” exemplifies our pedagogy and educational philosophy. We awaken our students' curiosity through innovative, differentiated, hands-on integrated curriculum such as project-based learning, reading and writing workshop, day and overnight field trips and the development of Jewish identity and values. We build academic, social and emotional skills and strategies through a constructivist approach of “learning by doing”. Our rigorous and innovative academic curriculum is differentiated and students are encouraged to adopt a growth mindset, where challenges are welcomed and failures are celebrated as learning opportunities. We foster interpersonal connections within our school community as well as local and global communities through our small mixed-grade classes, buddy and family programming, holiday celebrations, and an emphasis on service learning, Tikkun Olam (repairing the world) and Kavod (respect). Students foster personal connections to Jewish life and ethics and learn to live by these values both in and out of school.

We are very proud that this coming year Tehiyah will celebrate our 40th anniversary. Our strategic plan and Bridge to the Future initiatives are guiding us to further develop and enhance our program, culture and community for our next chapter. I encourage you to explore our website, and come by for a visit!
