Middle School Humanities Teacher



Tehiyah Day School is a small, independent Bridge Kindergarten through 8th grade Jewish community school nestled in the El Cerrito hills. We are committed to

Tehiyah seeks a highly qualified applicant for a 6th-8th Humanities teacher for the 2018-2019 academic year who is comfortable teaching a rigorous World Civilizations and World Literature program as well as US history. Familiarity with the tenets of social emotional learning and incorporating this in the Humanities curriculum is a plus.


The successful candidate will have experience teaching mixed-grade classes and will be expected to teach all three grades in English and history. Tehiyah offers Responsive Classroom curriculum, Lucy Calkins reading/writing curriculum, and Project-Based Learning across the curriculum. Excellent communication with parents, end of semester report card narratives, and collaboration with colleagues is required. The teacher would lead an advisory group for the middle school students. Applicants of all religious and ethnic backgrounds are encouraged to apply.



  • Bachelor’s Degree,  teaching credential and/or master's degree, and a minimum of three years’ teaching experience
  • Have a working understanding of developmental/constructivist teaching practices and social emotional learning.
  • Have a nurturing and supportive tone with students, and experience with collaborative teaching.
  • Have experience leading a middle school advisory group.
  • Experience developing and executing a differentiated, student-centered curriculum serving a range of learning styles and multiple intelligences
  • Excellent classroom management, assessment, and organization skills
  • Experience and success collaborating with other teachers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
